As of February 29, his artist profiles on Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal and YouTube read mgk to reflect the change. Likewise, his name on X, formerly known as Twitter, was replaced with the initials MGK, although his name @machinegunkelly handle remained the same.
The name change came more than a year after the comedy show. Chad and JT submitted a request that the musician’s pseudonym include the word “machine gun” so as “not to glorify machine guns.” As seen in YouTube video, September 2022the duo asked MGK to switch in concert using a large sign, prompting him to ask the audience, “What do you think?”
