Windows 11 Start menu ads are arriving. How to turn them off.

Sometimes it feels like everything is getting a little bit worse every day. This latest Windows 11 update is a perfect example.

inside patch notes Windows 11 update KB5036980 now shows recommended apps from the Windows App Store in the Windows 11 Start menu, Microsoft noted. In other words, it puts ads in the start menu.

“Several Microsoft Store apps will appear in the Recommended section of the Start menu. These apps are from a small number of carefully selected developers,” the patch notes state. “This will help you discover some of the great apps available.”

How to turn off recommended apps in the Windows 11 Start menu

If you’re concerned, yes, you can turn this off. Here’s how:

  1. Go to settings

  2. Click “Personalization”

  3. Click “Start”

  4. Find the toggle that says “Show recommendations for tips, app promotions, and more.”

  5. toggle off

It’s good that Microsoft provides an option to disable these ads directly. Please take advantage of it while you can.
