Drew Barrymore tells Kamala Harris she needs to be America’s ‘Mamala’ in ’embarrassing’ moment
Vice President Kamala Harris was asked Monday on Drew Barrymore’s daytime talk show if she could become the nation’s mom.
“I’ve been thinking that we all really need a big hug in the world right now,” Barrymore said, “but in our country, we need you to be the Mamala of the country.”
“Yes,” Harris responded, laughing.

The exchange was widely mocked by political commentators on social media.
“Drew Barrymore is misleading, NO ONE wants Kamala Harris to be ‘Momala’ for the country,” ACT for America President Brigitte Gabriel wrote on X Monday.
“Howard Stern refers to Joe Biden as the ‘Father of the Country’. Drew Barrymore says Kamala needs to be our ‘Momala’. Who exactly is in a cult? These people are not looking for a leader, they are looking for surrogate parents,” wrote the Fox News host Will Cain.
Author Oli London described it: “Drew Barrymore engages in a fawning, cringe-worthy display with Kamala Harris.”
“It’s possible?” Canadian professor Gad Saad asked about the conversation between Harris and Barrymore as he responded to London’s X publication. “Could a society delve into an orgy of mediocrity so childish that it would be considered convincing?”

Harris also spoke to Barrymore about the importance of never letting “anyone take your power” and being intentional about understanding “what is in your power” before moving on to comment on his laughter. Harris has made headlines for laughing in response to questions about the border crisis and the importance of female leadership.
“You were asking me before what it means to be like the first woman,” Harris said. “And you know, it’s funny because people still have to get used to this, right?”
Barrymore also told Harris that she loved the vice president’s laugh.
