Rory McIlroy denies split with Tiger Woods but admits to having different views on the future of golf
The tensions created between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf have not extended to the friendship between tiger forest and Rory McIlroy, the latter confirmed this week.
McIlroy, 35, recently confirmed that he would not return to the PGA Tour player board, as previously expected after he said there was “a subset of people on the board who were maybe uncomfortable with me coming back for some reason.”
Rumors subsequently began to circulate of a possible rift between McIlroy and Woods after it was reported that Woods was the only player involved in a subcommittee responsible for negotiations between the PGA Tour and the Saudi sponsors of LIV Golf.

After Thursday’s round at the Wells Fargo Championship, McIlroy was asked directly if behind-the-scenes politics had put “strain” on his relationship with Woods.
“I think friends can have disagreements,” McIlroy responded. “I think it’s okay, but no, I wouldn’t say it: we had a very good chat last Friday for 45 minutes about a lot of different things.
“No, there’s no tension there,” he said, doubling down.
“I think we might look at the future of golf a little differently, but I don’t think that should put a strain on a relationship or friendship.”

McIlroy also clarified that although he does not have voting power in the PGA Tour Business Board, he’s still involved.
“I’m not on the board, but I’m somewhat involved in that transaction committee. I don’t have a vote, so I guess I don’t have a meaningful say in what happens in the future.” but at least I can, I feel like I can be useful on that committee. And that was kind of a compromise to not get a board seat.”
McIlroy also added that he is confident Webb Simpson will remain on the playing board.
“Webb is a very level-headed, level-headed, big-picture guy. So if it wasn’t me taking his seat, it would be best for Webb to stay, and I’m happy about that.”

McIlroy entered the weekend four shots behind Xander Schauffele in the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow. On Friday he did not have any ghost to position himself well.
“Another solid day. I feel like I probably could have gotten a couple more out of the round, but any time you can get around this golf course without a bogey, you know it’s always going to be a decent day,” McIlroy said Friday. .
“After two full days, I’m ready to try again this weekend.”
