Immigrants in NYPD Times Square attack were offered plea deals, incl. 1 just got arrested again

Six of the immigrants who police say were part of a mob that brutally attacked two NYPD officers in Times Square in January were offered plea deals on Tuesday, while it was also revealed that one of the police officers accused of beating police officers was captured last week for stealing, according to the New York Post.

The Jan. 27 attack caught on camera against a lieutenant and a police officer drew widespread condemnation, and was followed by one of the suspects waving two middle fingers at reporters’ cameras after being released from police custody.

On Tuesday, the Manhattan district attorney’s office offered Yohenry Brito, 24, Ulises Bohórquez, 21, and Andrés Gómez-Izquiel, 19, plea deals to serve one year in prison in exchange for pleading guilty of second-degree assault, the Post reported. reports, citing the district attorney’s office.

Attorneys for the defendants have not yet accepted plea agreements.

The deals come as it was revealed that Brito was just caught for allegedly trying to steal children’s clothing and fragrances from Macy’s in Herald Square in Manhattan on Friday night, according to a criminal complaint seen by the Post.

Judge Laura Wood criticized him Tuesday in Manhattan Criminal Court.

“I am furious that Mr. Brito was arrested again and charged with petit larceny while on this case,” Wood fumed, according to the Post.

He warned that another crime would land him in prison.

“I’m very tempted right now to put you in jail. I’m telling you right now, if I find out that you get arrested again for any reason between now and this case being over, I will order a warrant and set bail this high. Brito was charged with petit larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, both misdemeanors.

Wood ordered the suspects to return to court on June 18, where a trial date will be set if a deal is not reached. An offer has not yet been made to 20-year-old Edgarlis Vegas, the Post reports.

In the Jan. 27 attack, NYPD had asked the migrants to move, but a fight broke out when officers were seen trying to subdue a person in a yellow jacket to the ground.

Police say one of the immigrants stomped on a lieutenant’s head while the officer was trying to detain a suspect on the ground. The migrant then kicks the other officer in the back before returning and kicking the lieutenant.

Another migrant can also be seen giving the lieutenant a big kick to the head. The migrant falls to the ground while he tries to execute the kick.

The video sparked public outrage and led to calls for immigrant deportations.
