If you lay the cards down, down, down, down, down, the truth is Cowboy Carter will not receive an Academy of Country Music award this year.
But before fans take this as an insult Beyoncé or a critically acclaimed album, have no fear—there’s a good reason for it. The Grammy winner’s debut country album was not nominated for this year’s May 16 ceremony simply because of its release date.
The selection period for this year’s nominees ran from January 1 to December 2023. Cowboy Carterwill be released in March 2024, the album will be eligible for next annual awards ceremony.
And Beyoncé isn’t the only artist who will have to wait until 2025 to find out if they take home any awards at the so-called Country Party of the Year. Kacey Musgraves‘ deep well, Sheryl Crow‘s Evolution And Yellowstone actor Luke Grimes‘ All self-titled albums were released in 2024, although Casey was still nominated for Female Artist of the Year and Musical Event of the Year.
But despite Queen Bey’s absence from this year’s nominees, there’s no need for alligator tears: it’s still an impressive list. (See all nominations here.)
