Martin Lawrence turned down participation in the film “Rush Hour” with Jackie Chan (video)

Martin Lawrence makes a “heartfelt confession” to fans and reveals that he was once asked to star opposite Jackie Chan in the 1998 film Rush Hour. In addition, the actor explained why he turned down this opportunity.

In accordance with PEOPLELawrence and fellow actor Will Smith appeared on the Tuesday, June 4 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Subsequently, the channel published an excerpt from the show, where the couple played the game “True Confessions.” YouTube.

In the game, participants must choose one of two envelopes, open the one they choose, and read aloud a “confession.” Then another participant must determine whether the statement is true or false.

Lawrence began the game by opening one of his envelopes, which read:

“Jackie Chan asked me to star with him in Rush Hour, but I refused.”

In response, Smith began to reflect and humorously stated: “Jackie Chan likes black people.” The actor then tried to press Lawrence for more information about Chan’s alleged request.

Crediting Smith’s efforts to find more clues about whether the claim was true or false, Lawrence said he and Chan allegedly met for dinner to discuss the request. Additionally, Lawrence claimed that he rejected Chan’s offer because it “there wasn’t enough money.”

Fallon initially dropped Lawrence’s lawsuit. However, Smith believed his fellow “Bad Guy” actor.

“It’s true,” Lawrence told the couple as Fallon looked shocked.

During the conversation, the host asked Lawrence if he was scared after turning down the role and seeing it become a “giant hit.” PEOPLE reports that the film was the ninth highest-grossing domestically that year and spawned two sequels.

Lawrence said he wasn’t bothered by it.

“No, no, no,” the actor responded before adding. “I was happy for Chris [Tucker]. That’s how it should have been. Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan – and they created a great franchise with Rush Hour.”

As The Shade Room previously reported, Lawrence recently set the record straight for his health while appearing as a guest on Hot 97. The 59-year-old told fans that despite what they believe, he’s doing “fine.”

“I’m fine,” he explained. “I am in God’s hands. I’m blessed, you know. I’m glad to wake up every day and everything – [there’s] people don’t need to worry.”

In addition, Lawrence told fans that he is “pretty damn healthy.”
