Multiple injured, including 8-year-old, in ‘random’ shooting at Michigan splash pad: sheriff’s department
Between nine and 10 people were injured in a shooting Saturday at a splash zone in Rochester Hills, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, and the youngest victim was 8 years old, the Oakland County sheriff said at a news conference on Saturday night.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said he does not know the status of the victims who have “different types of injuries.” The victims have been transferred to up to four local hospitals.
He said the suspect appeared to have gotten out of a vehicle, started shooting and then left the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in a “random act.”
The suspect is “contained” and law enforcement, including SWAT and armored vehicles, have a perimeter around the home where the person is located, Bouchard said, adding that they are trying to obtain a search warrant.

Bouchard said officers arrived at the scene two minutes after receiving the call around 5:11 p.m.
Investigators said they recovered a Glock 9mm handgun and three magazines, meaning the suspect may have fired 28 times and reloaded.

“It’s obviously a punch in the gut for us in Oakland County,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. “We’ve been through so many tragedies.”

“We don’t even fully understand what happened in Oxford,” he added, referring to the deadly 2021 Oxford High School shooting.
