Lakeland police officers responded to a reported shooting at the fast food restaurant around 1 a.m. The shooting stemmed from an argument between Gardner and a customer who was complaining about his order at the drive-thru window.
During the dispute, Gardner threw a drink at customers as they tried to leave, police said. At one point, a customer reached through the window and knocked some items to the ground.

“Two of the customers exited their vehicle and opened the window to throw drinks at Gardner, who then armed himself with a gun,” a police statement said.
Customers then surrounded the building and Gardner came out with his gun to continue arguing, authorities said. He allegedly opened fire as the vehicle left the parking lot.
