For Katie Archibaldher 2024 Olympic dream ended before it even began.
The British cyclist was just weeks away from competing in her third Olympics when an injury at home scuppered her chances of competing for Great Britain.
“I tripped on a step in the garden,” Katie began. Instagram update from June 20, which featured a selfie of her and a picture of her leg in a cast. “Somehow I managed to sprain my ankle, break my tibia and fibula and tear two ligaments from the bone. What the heck”.
The 30-year-old, thanking her “amazing” medical team, explained she had surgery and would go home with her foot in a boot this afternoon.
“A hundred apologies for what this means for the Olympic team, which I’ve been told is none of my business,” she continued. “I’m still processing this news, but thought it best to confirm it publicly rather than leave it to hear (tripping hazards and all).”
And while the three-time medalist noted that she might have to take a break from social media while she recovers, that didn’t stop a slew of well-wishers from flooding her comments section with positive thoughts.
