Skylla Baby Talks Detroit’s Best Rapper

During a conversation with Keke PalmerSkylla Baby argues that Eminem is not the best rapper to come out of Detroit, noting that the album title changes are due to the inconsistent creativity of local artists.

“I don’t know, because if you think that Eminem is the best rapper in Detroit, by numbers. But the joke is, no one in Detroit would say that,” Skilla said.

When Keke asked Skylla who Detroit’s favorite rapper was, he said he wasn’t sure because everyone in the city had their moment at the top.

“Everybody had their turn to be Detroit’s favorite rapper. Sada Baby had their turn, Tee Grizzley had their turn, Dugg had his turn, Babyface Ray had his turn, Veeze is one of the best rappers in Detroit, Baby Smoove. There are a lot of artists that had their turn. Everybody had their turn to be the best in the city. But we lack consistency. Nobody has consistently been Detroit’s best rapper or favorite rapper,” Skilla continued.

Additionally, Skylla Baby stood by his opinion on Eminem, stating that while Detroit respects Eminem, he does not believe the legendary rapper can currently be considered the best rapper in the city.

“But nobody plays Eminem in Detroit right now, I’m not gonna lie. And I was a fan of Eminem growing up. I’m a fan of Eminem, but do we think he’s our best rapper? I don’t think Detroit does,” Skilla explained.
