Eddie supports his son Eric’s relationship
In accordance with PEOPLE, Eddie recently gave an exclusive interview Gayle King on the CBS Mornings program.
During a conversation with King, the legendary actor spoke about his son Eric Murphy relationship with Martin Lawrence’s daughter Jasmine Lawrence. Behind Entertainment tonight, The Coming to America star was initially supportive and found the start of their relationship exciting, noting that Martin felt the same.
“We just thought, ‘This is cool.’ They’re both beautiful. They look amazing together,” Eddie said.
During his interview with King, Eddie also discussed a possible future if Erica and Jasmine get married and have a child.
“It’s funny, everyone asks, ‘What, is this baby going to be funny?’ Like, only our gene pool is going to make this funny baby. If they ever get married and decide to have a baby, I expect the baby to be funny,” Eddie continued.
PEOPLE reports that Martin appeared to echo Eddie’s sentiments during his 2022 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, joking about the possibility of their kids someday creating a “comedy super kid.”
Martin accepted his daughter’s relationship with Eddie’s son, but mentioned that he preferred to stay out of their affairs and respect what was going on between them. However, he later joked that if and when their wedding took place, he would try to make Eddie foot the bill.
Fans of Eddie and Martin know of their history together. They appeared in two films together, Boomerang in 1992 and Life in 1999.

Eddie has ten children in total, including Eric, who is his eldest son from a former relationship with Paulette McNeely. Meanwhile, Jasmine is Martin’s eldest daughter from his marriage to Patricia Southall. Martin also has two daughters with his ex-wife, Shamicka Gibbs.
Eric Murphy and Jasmine went public with their relationship in June 2021 when Eric posted a selfie with Martin Lawrence’s daughter on his Facebook page. Instagram. In the caption, Eric wrote: “Head over heels in love with YOU. #myotherhalf #samefriend #iloveyou.”
In January 2022, Jasmine reported InTouch weekly that she initially met Eric through her uncle, and that their fathers actually played no role in the beginning of their relationship.
“It’s not even through our fathers. And they starred in two films together, they are friends,” Jasmine Lawrence explained.
