Jon Bon Jovi mourns a great loss.
His mother Carol Bongiovi— a businesswoman who also founded her son’s fan club for his rock band in the 1980s — died on July 9, the musician confirmed in a statement. PeopleShe was 83 years old.
“Our mother was a force to be reckoned with,” the 62-year-old said on behalf of his family, “her spirit and determination shaped this family. She will be greatly missed.”
According to the publication, Carol died at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, New Jersey, just three days before her 84th birthday. The cause of her death has not been disclosed.
The Pennsylvania native also shares sons with Anthony And Matthew with my husband of 64 years, John Bongiovi, Sr..—was a businesswoman and also enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and met her future husband while serving.
Her son John has previously praised his parents as the guiding force behind her rock star career, saying they helped shape her as a “man and a father”.
