Etsy Announces New Updates to Boost Commitment to Creativity

Etsy has announced a series of updates aimed at furthering its mission to preserve humane commerce. These updates reflect nearly two decades of fostering creativity and self-expression in an increasingly automated world, and highlight Etsy’s dedication to maintaining a marketplace for authentic goods from real people.

Since its inception in 2005, Etsy has successfully connected creative entrepreneurs with millions of buyers worldwide. The platform continues to prioritize investments that allow sellers’ unique items to shine. Key investments include:

Nurturing a diverse marketplace of handmade, vintage, personalized, and custom products.

Allow production partners in 2014 to help sellers scale their business.

Increased resources for customer support, product development and marketing in response to recent growth.

Intensify enforcement efforts to combat non-compliant listings and protect market integrity.

Etsy has reorganized its policies into new creative standards to clarify what is allowed on the platform. This reorganization emphasizes human imagination and involvement in the creation of items sold on Etsy. The new standards categorize items as follows:

Designed by Seller

Obtained by seller

Carefully selected by the seller

To make it clearer to buyers why an item is listed on Etsy, new product details will be displayed on listing pages, such as “Made by ShopName” or “Designed by ShopName.” Additionally, the listing form now includes more options to share details about the processes, materials, and tools sellers use.

Etsy is also working on new ways to highlight the roles of sellers in areas like search, discovery, and marketing experiences. This effort aims to meet buyers’ expectations and help them find the exact types of items they’re looking for, whether they’re artisanal pieces or custom items with production assistance.

Additionally, Etsy offers more actionable insights to help sellers improve the visibility of their listings. Specific factors that indicate a high-quality listing will be shared to ensure listings are seen and sold.

Etsy has launched a new marketing campaign to show how sellers are the heart of the marketplace. The campaign includes TV ads, billboards, and social media content in the US and UK, highlighting the sellers who make the marketplace unique and human. The homepages in the US and UK have also been updated to highlight the human touch behind Etsy items.

Etsy Design AwardsThe annual global awards program kicks off on July 16, honoring the work of Etsy sellers across multiple categories.
